  1. The Berwick Anti-Drug Alliance will conduct a presentation at the McBride Memorial Library, 500 Market Street, Berwick, PA. The informational program will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The program is titled “Substance Abuse in the Emergency Room.”
Diane Rinker, BSN, RN, Director of Emergency Services for the Berwick Hospital Center and Danielle Busch, RN, will discuss the negative consequences of substance abuse from an ER perspective, including the numerous overdose victims they treat each week. She will discuss the incidence of unique drug trends such as bath salts, synthetic marijuana, high-energy drinks and others.
Rinker states that this will be an important educational program because, “We need to inform the community of the immediate effect of drugs on patients and their loved ones. Drugs do not only affect the patient, but the family, the caregivers and the community as a whole. ”
The Berwick Anti-Drug Alliance is a community-based, citizen-driven group providing resources dealing with an ongoing problem. We recognize substance abuse can destroy individual lives, families and communities. We recognize substance abuse can be found in every city and town in Pennsylvania and we acknowledge our community is not unique in that respect.
The program is open to the public and is free of charge. Informational materials will be distributed. For more information on this event please contact Maxim Furek at (570)-542-7946 or the McBride
    Memorial Library at (570) 752-2241.

  2. Hello!
I just finished reading the recently published book, Dreamland, written by Sam Quinones. Its subtitle is “the true tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic.” The book’s title is “spot on.” I highly recommend this book because it explains how these type of drugs have entered the lives of small town America and how destructive opiates are.
